If you pay for a nursery or an eligible educational service for a child under three, you can check the INPS fee-reimbursement route. If a serious chronic illness prevents nursery attendance throughout the year, a separate contribution supports care at home. Start with your situation: a first application, managing months and documents, or home support.
Bonus nido is a financial contribution. It does not enrol your child, change a municipal waiting list or guarantee a place. Fee reimbursements remain within the applicable ceiling and the eligible amount you actually bear. This guide covers 2026 and documents for 2026 costs submitted in 2027; it does not anticipate 2027 amounts.
Before you start
- Two contributions
- Documented nursery fees, or support at home for serious chronic illness
- 2026 ISEE
- ISEE per specifiche prestazioni familiari e per l'inclusione, applicable to the child and with AUU neutralised
- Nursery fees
- Up to 11 months per calendar year, never more than your eligible costs
- Separate deadlines
- 2026 application by 31 December 2026; documents for 2026 months by 30 April 2027
Section 1
Choose your route
Manage an existing case in the service; do not submit a duplicate just to add a receipt.
| Your situation | What to prepare | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| First application for fees | Eligibility, ISEE, an authorised provider and documents for at least the first booked month | Follow First application; separate funding reservation from reimbursement |
| Application already submitted | Case reference, year, selected months, invoices and payment evidence | Open Gestione and check each month, attachment and outcome |
| Serious chronic illness prevents attendance | Eligibility, living with the child and a pediatra di libera scelta certificate covering the whole year | Follow Support at home: this is separate from ordinary fee reimbursement |
| Looking for a place or enrolling | The provider's or Comune's notice, waiting list and contacts | Follow their enrolment procedure; Bonus nido does not allocate places |
Section 2
Child, applicant and residence permit
Check Bonus nido's conditions; do not import Assegno unico rules into this application.
- The application concerns a child under three. The case remains valid until August of the year of the third birthday, but that duration is not an unconditional right to every monthly payment.
- The applicant must live in Italy and be an Italian/EU citizen or hold one of the accepted residence permits. Eligibility must exist when applying and continue throughout the benefit.
- For fees, the parent bearing the payment cost applies. For home support, the applicant parent must live with the child and have their habitual abode in the same Comune.
- A temporary or pre-adoptive foster carer can apply, providing the court division, filing date and order number. Where the child's parent is a minor or lacks legal capacity, that parent's parent or guardian can act; eligibility is checked against the child's parent.
If you are not an EU citizen: check the exact permit
Circular 29 accepts the EU long-term residence permit. It also lists Carta blu and self-employment permits valid for at least six months, plus permits for employed work, seasonal work, assistenza minori, protezione speciale, casi speciali, temporary protection for people from Ukraine and family reasons. Stateless people, refugees and holders of international protection with a valid permit are covered on the terms stated in the circular.
For a permesso per attesa occupazione, the circular currently provides for acceptance when the other conditions are met, with payment subject to possible recovery depending on legal or legislative developments. This reservation must not be omitted.
If the permit has expired, a renewal request is needed; failure to renew can lead to withdrawal and recovery of payments. Prepare the permit number, issuing authority, issue and expiry dates, and any renewal request. For a different permit or an unclear situation, ask INPS or a patronato to check before relying on a contribution.
Section 3
Which providers and services qualify?
The regional authorisation for the educational service matters, rather than the provider's trading name alone.
| Service | What to check |
|---|---|
| Nidi and micronidi; sezioni primavera | Valid authorisation and an educational service for ages 0–3 |
| Spazi gioco; servizi educativi in contesto domiciliare | An eligible category and regional authorisation; a general childcare activity is not enough |
| Recreation, pre-school/after-school services; centri per bambini e famiglie with an accompanying adult | Excluded from the reimbursement described in Circular 29 |
| Support in your own home for serious chronic illness | A separate medical route requiring the paediatrician's certificate, rather than nursery authorisation |
Ask the provider for its details
Name, codice fiscale/partita IVA and address; for a private provider, the authorisation reference and effective date. Check that these cover the premises and service your child attends.
Check with the responsible public body
Consult the Regione or local body's lists and ask the authorising body if details do not match. INPS must check with that body if the provider is missing from the lists or its status is unclear.
Use the map for orientation
Since 9 October 2026, INPS offers Servizi vicino a me in the Portale Famiglia. Public bodies progressively supply the data: a listing or absence from the map does not establish available places or the reimbursement outcome.
Section 4
2026 ISEE, AUU and certificates with discrepancies
Check the indicator applicable to the child and the year. Submitting a DSU does not submit a benefit application.
From 2026, INPS uses the ISEE per specifiche prestazioni familiari e per l'inclusione applicable to the child's subsidised benefits, with the household's AUU amounts neutralised. The circular relates AUU to the DSU equivalence scale: it does not tell you to subtract the whole Assegno unico yourself. Check the certificate and the value used in your case; ask INPS/CAF about the part of the process they handle if these do not match.
For nursery-fee reimbursement, INPS uses the ISEE valid on the last day of the month before the requested month. If none exists, it uses the requested month's ISEE, if available. Without a valid ISEE, or if the applicant parent is outside the child's ISEE household, the circular provides for the minimum amount. A later valid certificate can increase instalments from its certification date, without adjustments for earlier instalments. The AUU 30 June deadline must not be applied to this bonus.
Omissions, discrepancies or inconsistencies with public-administration data initially lead to the minimum amount. The circular treats this case separately: correcting the DSU, submitting a new regular DSU, or providing supporting documents that pass verification allows recalculation using the new information. It does not guarantee a full refund or a particular individual outcome.
Section 5
2026 amounts: annual and monthly ceilings
Birth date and neutralised ISEE determine a ceiling, rather than a guaranteed payment.
| Child's date of birth | Neutralised ISEE | Annual ceiling | Maximum monthly fee instalments |
|---|---|---|---|
| From 1 January 2024 | Up to and including €40,000 | €3,600 | 10 × €327.27 + 1 × €327.30 |
| From 1 January 2024 | Over €40,000 or no ISEE | €1,500 | 10 × €136.37 + 1 × €136.30 |
| Before 1 January 2024 | Up to and including €25,000.99 | €3,000 | 10 × €272.73 + 1 × €272.70 |
| Before 1 January 2024 | €25,001 to €40,000 inclusive | €2,500 | 10 × €227.27 + 1 × €227.30 |
| Before 1 January 2024 | Over €40,000 or no ISEE | €1,500 | 10 × €136.37 + 1 × €136.30 |
Keep the cents: the eleven instalments are not identical. This table covers the 2026 benefit year. The pre-2024 row does not make a month eligible if the conditions are no longer met. Age, the eligible period, application and evidence still matter.
For support at home, the applicable annual ceilings are used, but payment is made in one lump sum rather than against eleven invoices. For nursery fees, you can request no more than eleven months per calendar year, even if attendance or the educational year covers more.
Illustrative example only: with a monthly ceiling of €327.27 and eligible costs of €250 that you bear, reimbursement cannot exceed €250. If your eligible costs are €400, it cannot exceed that €327.27 monthly ceiling. This example does not establish your entitlement or replace INPS checks.
Section 6
Eligible and excluded costs
Separate invoice items and identify the eligible cost you actually bear.
| Eligible | Excluded or treated separately |
|---|---|
| Monthly fee for an eligible educational service | Registration fee |
| Meals for the selected month | Pre-school and after-school services |
| Imposta di bollo, stamp duty | Recreational services and ineligible educational services |
| Reduced-rate IVA in the circumstances described by the circular for nurseries run by social cooperatives and ONLUS | Ordinary IVA; do not classify VAT as reimbursable yourself |
If an invoice includes several services, ask for a breakdown identifying the fee, meals and excluded items. A payment receipt alone does not make a provider or an expense eligible.
If another body or your employer covers part of the cost, check what you actually bear and the other scheme's conditions. The expense ceiling does not establish general compatibility with all local grants or employer welfare schemes.
Section 7
First application for fees: the steps
One application for each child; select the right contribution before submitting.
Prepare your details and access method
Have the applicant's and child's codici fiscali, residence details, relevant 2026 ISEE, any residence permit or foster-care order, provider details, months and IBAN ready. Sign in with SPID level 2 or higher, CIE 3.0 or CNS; a patronato can help.
Open the INPS service
On INPS: Sostegni, Sussidi e Indennità > Per genitori > Bonus asilo nido e forme di supporto presso la propria abitazione. Submit a separate application for each child and select contributo asilo nido.
Enter the provider and 2026 months
Check Pubblico/Privato and any required authorisation details. Select the relevant calendar-year months, up to eleven; do not confuse them with the whole educational year.
Upload the first month's evidence to reserve funding
You need expense documents for at least the first booked month. For a public nursery charging after attendance, you can provide evidence of a successful waiting-list position or an attendance certificate. This exception concerns funding reservation; payment evidence is still needed for reimbursement.
Check the summary and submission receipt
Before submitting, check the child, applicant, year, months, provider and payment details. Keep the receipt and case reference, then monitor outcomes and complete each month's documents in the service.
The 2026 service opened on 31 March. Funding reservations follow the date and time the required evidence is uploaded. If the budget is exhausted, months may be placed in reserve and processed if other reserved funding becomes available; submission does not guarantee payment.
Section 8
Existing application: months, updates and attachments
Multiyear validity from 2026 simplifies the case but does not automate months or reimbursements.
Applications submitted and accepted from 1 January 2026 remain valid until August of the year in which the child turns three, subject to continued eligibility. In later years, open the registered case, book that year's months and upload the required evidence. Do not assume a 2025 application automatically becomes a multiyear case.
To change months, the circular documents Gestione > Invia Richiesta > Sostituisci mensilità richieste or Aggiungi mensilità richiesta. Upload invoices and payments using Allega documenti di spesa, or Bonus nido in the INPS Mobile app. Attachments sent through other channels are not considered.
Check the application status and each month's verification outcome separately. An accepted application does not mean every receipt is complete, every month is booked or a transfer has already been ordered. Report changes affecting eligibility without waiting for the annual update.
Section 9
Invoices, receipts and payment evidence
Evidence must connect the provider, child, service, month, amount and cost borne by the applicant.
Check the expense document
- An invoice addressed to the applicant or child, showing the provider's name, registered address and codice fiscale/partita IVA.
- The service, month and year covered, the child's full name or codice fiscale, and the service amount.
- If the provider is exempt from invoicing, a receipt and a statement of the exemption, included in the receipt or provided by its legal representative with an identity-document copy. Non-commercial associations outside IVA also need the specified declaration concerning institutional educational services for members.
- Municipal nurseries and municipal/state sezioni primavera may use a payment notice instead of an invoice; evidence of payment is still required.
| Method | What the evidence must show |
|---|---|
| Bank or postal transfer | Execution and account debit on a bank/Poste document, rather than a revocable order. An account jointly held by the parents is accepted |
| Credit/debit card or POS | Receipt with an amount matching the invoice/receipt for the month |
| PagoPA | Receipt with the notice or documentation showing the IUV; public-provider evidence must identify provider, child, service and month |
| Postal payment slip; non-transferable cheque | Payment connected to the applicant and/or child, with evidence allowing the required checks |
| Payroll deduction or employer statement | Only accepted for workplace nurseries; it must prove the fee was paid |
Section 10
Reusable nursery-fee checklist
Copy this into your notes and check one month at a time.
- I have separated nursery enrolment, the INPS application and the fee-payment request.
- I have checked the child's/applicant's eligibility and the authorisation for the premises attended.
- I have checked the child's applicable 2026 ISEE, household, reference number and any annotations.
- I have selected the benefit year and booked the actual months, up to eleven.
- For each month I have an invoice/receipt/notice with the correct child, service, period and amount.
- I have evidence of completed, traceable payment, plus the required declaration and ID if someone else paid.
- I have separated eligible costs, excluded items and the part I actually bear.
- I have attached evidence to the right month; several receipts for one month are combined in one file.
- I have checked the IBAN, payment details, submission receipt and any requests for more information.
- I have recorded 31 December 2026 for the application and 30 April 2027 for complete documents for 2026 months, keeping these deadlines separate.
Section 11
Deadlines: applications, months, documents and processing
Documents for 2026 costs may be due in 2027; that does not turn them into 2027 costs.
| Action | Reference | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Application for the 2026 benefit year | Service opened 31 March; deadline 31 December 2026 | At the guide's date, you can still check the 2026 route if eligible; do not wait for the upload deadline |
| Selecting/booking months | Relevant calendar-year months, up to eleven; annual update | Neither automatic nor the same as the whole educational year |
| Replacing/adding months | Gestione > Invia Richiesta functions | The sources read do not give a separate universal correction deadline: check availability with INPS rather than assuming an extension to April |
| Complete evidence for requested 2026 months | By 30 April 2027, otherwise those payments lapse | An upload deadline, rather than a new window to submit a 2026 application |
| Processing | The page gives 30 days from complete documents, including provider authorisation | Monthly payments: from documents; if already attached when applying, from acceptance. This is not a promise of bank credit on a fixed date |
Do not wait until the last day: incomplete documents or evidence attached to the wrong month may need correcting. If INPS requests information, also read the deadline in that individual communication. The sources consulted do not guarantee reopening after a claim lapses.
30 April 2027 concerns evidence of 2026 costs. It does not confirm ceilings, ISEE rules or procedures for new costs in the 2027 benefit year.
Section 12
IBAN and payment details
Check the account in this application, even if you already use it for another INPS benefit.
The service uses Sistema Unico Gestione IBAN (SUGI). In a new application or when changing payments for an accepted case, you can select an IBAN already registered with INPS or enter a new one. Check the full code, account-holder details and methods accepted by the service. An account used for AUU does not automatically correct the nursery case.
For an account with a foreign bank in the SEPA area, the circular requires form MV70 stamped and signed by the bank, or accompanied by a statement with transaction details redacted or a bank declaration showing the IBAN and holder. Follow the official process and avoid sending unnecessary transactions or personal data.
If payment has not arrived, first check the month's outcome, documents and payment details. Ask INPS how to correct an inactive account or rejected payment; do not automatically submit another application for the same child.
Section 13
Support at home for serious chronic illness
A separate contribution for children under three who cannot attend nursery throughout the calendar year.
Check the condition and who applies
General eligibility and a serious chronic illness preventing attendance for the whole calendar year are required. The applicant parent must live with the child and have their habitual abode in the same Comune.
Contact the pediatra di libera scelta
Based on suitable documentation, the certificate must state that serious chronic illness prevents nursery attendance throughout the relevant calendar year. A general sickness certificate or a lack of nursery places is not equivalent.
Select the home-support contribution
Apply for the child by selecting forme di supporto presso la propria abitazione. Attach the certificate to reserve funding and check ISEE and payment details. Read the documented ISEE reference-date limitation in this guide's ISEE section.
Update the case each year
Multiyear validity does not remove annual tasks. In later years, open the case when the service opens and attach that year's required documents. Do not assume a certificate covering only the previous year proves the new year's condition.
INPS pays this contribution in one lump sum, up to the applicable annual ceiling. It is separate from monthly reimbursement for a home-based educational service and is not a general refund for babysitting, private care or medical costs.
If you requested and received a nursery-fee contribution for at least one month in a calendar year, Circular 29 excludes a home-support application for that same year. Ask INPS to check your case before changing routes; do not assume the two annual ceilings can be added together.
The circular treats home support as tax-exempt welfare assistance, reported in the relevant Certificazione Unica section. Ask a CAF or qualified professional about your own tax return.
Section 14
When a month or payment is missing
Start with the case and monthly outcomes; prepare a precise enquiry with the reference and period concerned.
| Problem | Check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Incomplete or inconsistent documents | Invoice/receipt, payment evidence, child, month and provider details | Read INPS's request; obtain corrections from the issuer and upload the extra evidence against the right month |
| Provider not recognised | Premises, service type, authorisation, effective date and authorising body | Ask the provider and responsible body for checks; give INPS the details if the provider is missing from lists |
| ISEE discrepancy or unexpected minimum payment | Year, child's household, certificate used and annotations; ceiling and eligible cost | Separate missing ISEE from discrepancies; discuss a correction, new DSU or supporting evidence with CAF/INPS, without assuming adjustments |
| Missing month | Selected year, month booking and attached evidence | Check the Gestione add/replace functions; ask INPS if the function or period is closed |
| Wrong IBAN or closed account | Registered IBAN, holder, payment method and any failed-payment outcome | Correct details through payment/SUGI functions; ask INPS about any reissue needed |
| Stalled payment or rejected application | Reason, requests for information, completeness, acceptance date and each month's status | Contact INPS or your patronato with the reference and month; follow the communication's channels and deadlines rather than blindly duplicating the application |
The application service shows the outcome and monthly checks. Keep communications and check whether funding is in reserve. The service page's processing deadline does not guarantee a fixed transfer date or a successful correction.
Losing eligibility can stop payments and lead to recovery. Where the legal conditions are met, the circular allows another applicant to take over within 90 days of the event. The function reusing the previous application's data is described only for the applicant's death. Ask INPS/patronato about these cases rather than treating them as a simple IBAN change.
For help, use a patronato or the INPS Contact Center: 803 164 is free from a landline; 06 164 164 from a mobile is charged at your operator's rate. For details about your personal case, the Contact Center requires a temporary PIN telefonico generated in MyINPS under Contatta INPS. Do not share it with this site. Telephone assistance does not replace the required online submission of applications and attachments.
Section 15
AUU, other contributions and tax deductions
Check compatibility and limits for each scheme and for the cost you actually bear.
- AUU: the INPS page states that Assegno unico does not absorb or limit Bonus nido amounts. Applications and eligibility remain separate; ISEE neutralisation does not make them the same benefit.
- Municipal/regional contributions and employer welfare: check the scheme's conditions and your own share of costs. Do not request two reimbursements for the same part of a cost or infer universal compatibility from the AUU rule.
- Nursery-fee tax deduction: Circular 29 confirms that it cannot be combined with the fee contribution and that INPS reports payments to Agenzia delle Entrate. Do not assume you can automatically deduct a difference or avoid the restriction by using the other parent; check the return with a CAF or qualified professional.
- Bonus nuovi nati and bonus mamme have different purposes and eligibility. This guide does not verify every combination with Bonus nido; open the official page for the relevant scheme.
Section 16
Frequently asked questions about Bonus nido
Short answers to help you choose the next check.
Does Bonus nido guarantee a nursery place?
No. It is an INPS contribution towards eligible, documented costs, or towards support at home under specific medical conditions. Enrolment, waiting lists, fees and available places are managed by the provider and the responsible public body.
Do I need a new application every year from 2026?
Applications submitted and accepted from 2026 remain valid across years until August of the year in which the child turns three, subject to eligibility checks. You still need to open the case each year: select months and upload documents for nursery fees, or provide the required certification for home support. Do not assume that a pre-2026 application has been converted automatically.
Can I apply without an ISEE?
Yes, if you meet the other conditions. Without a valid ISEE, the minimum annual ceiling of €1,500 applies; nursery-fee payments also remain subject to the monthly ceiling and your eligible costs. Providing a valid ISEE later does not automatically lead to adjustments for earlier instalments.
Should I subtract Assegno unico from my ISEE myself?
No. In 2026 INPS uses the ISEE per specifiche prestazioni familiari e per l'inclusione applicable to the child, with AUU neutralised under Circular 29. The calculation accounts for the DSU equivalence scale: do not subtract the whole AUU payment from your certificate yourself.
When must I upload documents for 2026 fees?
Complete documents for the requested 2026 months must be submitted by 30 April 2027, otherwise the claim for those payments lapses. This upload deadline is separate from the 31 December 2026 application deadline. It does not establish that you can wait until April to apply or select new months.
Is the claim excluded if the other parent or a relative pays?
Not automatically. The applicant must bear the cost, and the invoice must be addressed to the applicant or child. Where someone else makes the payment, Circular 29 requires a declaration from the payer, with an identity-document copy, stating that the payment was made in the applicant parent's name and on their behalf. INPS checks the evidence and who actually bears the cost.
Is a home-based educational service the same as medical home support?
No. An authorised servizio educativo in contesto domiciliare can fall under the nursery-fee reimbursement route. The separate support-at-home contribution requires a serious chronic illness and certification from the pediatra di libera scelta that the child cannot attend nursery throughout the calendar year.
Can I receive both AUU and Bonus nido?
The INPS AUU service page states that Assegno unico does not absorb or limit Bonus nido amounts. Each benefit still has its own eligibility rules, application, ISEE calculation and documents. For other contributions, also check the conditions of the relevant scheme.
Is there a fixed monthly payment date?
No. The service page gives a 30-day processing deadline from complete documentation, with specific starting points for monthly payments. This is not a bank-credit calendar: missing documents, checks and payment arrangements can affect an individual case.

Official sources and consultation limits
Relevant passages consulted on 11 October 2026; each reference records its scope and limits.
The public service page, full Circular 29 and its accounting annex, Message 1136, Circular 93 and relevant database/map announcements were read and compared with the legislation listed below. No personal account access, application submission or individual case checks were performed.
Amounts come from the 2026 table in Circular 29 and the service page. The July announcement's summary mentions another child under ten and is not used for financial eligibility. The ISEE section explains the different home-support reference dates. No 2027 amounts or comprehensive set of local schemes were verified.
Checklists, examples and the order of checks are editorial information tools. The INPS service and the responsible body's assessment determine the individual case.
